• Magazine Review – I Like Knitting, February 2015

“I like knitting”, there’s a phrase that probably every knitter has uttered or at least “I love knitting”.  Well, now that phrase is a magazine or rather an online magazine.  You may have never heard of it, and that’s because it’s brand new.  Their February 2015 issue is, in fact, their second issue, though thus far it’s my favorite.  Mind you, that’s partially because my Cables and Welts Hat is in the issue.  Not only that, it’s the first pattern in the magazine, which I think is really, really cool.  It’s a great magazine beyond those selfish reasons, though.

My personal favorite part of the magazine is how iPad friendly it is.  Of course that’s because it was written primarily to be iPad friendly, but I still love that it’s iPad friendly.  I just go to my iPad and open it up then I can get anywhere easily by clicking on patterns in the Table of Contents.  Yes, I know, this is old news to many of you, but I still think it’s cool.  Furthermore, the two issues of the magazine have gathered some really nice designers, designers like Mari Chiba for instance.

The February issue has some really nice designs in it.  One design I really like is Bottoms Up Women’s Hat by Marie Godsey.  It’s a basic hat, kind of, but unlike most knitwear its base is made up almost entirely of reverse stockinette.  It’s really cool.  There’s also a good reason for it.  You see, the hat has this iCord embellishment on it, a bright purple one that looks like a cable pattern.  It really pops against the gray, reverse stockinette background, and I really like the hat as a whole.

Another pattern I really like is Breezy Brioche Cowl by Mari Chiba.  The colors of the cowl are really nice, and the yarn looks really squishy, which works well with the stitch pattern.  I love all things brioche, though, so I might be a bit biased.  That doesn’t change the fact that it’s a very nice cowl, though.

Anyways, the magazine is definitely worth checking out.  If you don’t have an iPad, that’s okay.  You can still access all the content of the magazine online.  So go on, you know you want to!
